This summer has been weird. I thought it would be another scorcher like last year, with fires all over the place. It has been that way in the western provinces of Canada, but here in Ontario (my part at least) it has been kinda all over the place. A week of 30+, and then a week in the low 20s and raining. Much better than fires, but it hasn't felt like summer to me.
The other day it snowed. And the trees are starting to turn. I'm not ready for this! But then today was about 30°C which was really nice. Oh well. Time is a sort of weird soup, after all.
I found out that there is a "coffee and bicycles" group that started recently, so I went to join in a group ride and introduce myself. It went pretty well! We ended up riding quite a distance. Including the ride to from the spot where we met up I went about 45km! Not in one hit, though. We stopped a couple of times, and stopped for coffee and snacks too. All up it was nearly 3 hours. It was a good day! And my legs only cramped up a little bit! haha
Firstly: Holy shit it's August already? Bloody hell.
So it has been a minute. There have been ups and downs. Turns out I actually have ADHD. Which, after reading through my kid's diagnosis and then talking with my doctor about it, totally makes sense. So yeah. The drugs work really well. And that has worked out really well because I've been studying for exams that will allow me to finally progress my career again. So I have been legitimately busy. With less procrastinating!
Still have a whole bunch of projects on the go, too. I decided to bind my notes into books for some reason, which has been educational. And I've been fixing the fence in my backyard. Usual stuff I guess. I've been organising my projects on jira and that's kinda neat. I need to flesh out the projects sections on here at some point.
Still getting kinda overwhelmed with all the things sometimes, though. My brain still has too many tabs open haha. Oh well.
The weather has been all over the place. But it's warming up, which is great. I'm not much of a winter person, which is ironic having migrated to Canada. 😅
So I'm getting my bikes ready, and trying (and failing) to do some exercise so I'm not starting right from square one when I do start to ride again. Soon I will see green again.
The car has been pretty great so far, despite being winter. It's still a
Today I learned that the marquee thing still works. Fun!
Looks like I'm starting off the new year with a new (to me) car. I've wanted an electric car since 2007, after I saw Who Killed The Electric Car. Various things over the years have gotten in the way. But a week or so ago I happened across a 2020 Kona EV for sale that looked like a good deal. So we went for it. I pick it up on Saturday. Even though I still think car dependency is a terrible thing I'm pretty hyped. Between this and riding my bike when it's not snowing out I hope to never buy petrol again! It's a nice feeling.
I mean, a high frequency tram network and nice walkable streets would be nice, but that's not happening any time soon unfortunately.
In this economy?
I should probably be sleeping, and it's just passed midnight. But here I am, typing away. Still setting up this site thing. I'm manually typing this in as HTML. I'm trying to keep this as low-complexity as I can. I can put in some <> tags as I write entries. No worries!
I've nearly got the layout of this place sorted. Again, fairly simple. In the next few days I'll copy over the project stuff from my gemini capsule as a basis for what I want to do here. I might keep that updated in parallel if I have the energy.
Okay bye.
